Hundreds of guests filled Biola's campus for Spring Preview Day and the launch of Biola's Seventh School, the School of Education.
The day of celebration began with a breakfast reception for School of Education alumni, staff, faculty and guest educators. In Chase Gymnasium, the Biola community and honored guests joined together for a special commissioning chapel for The School of Education, featuring Dr. Al Mijares, speaking on "The Call to Educate the Next Generation." The chapel also featured a ceremonial charge to Education students, faculty and staff and a symbolic commissioning prayer.

Dr. Mijares is currently serving as the Western Region Vice President of the College Board, San Jose, California and previously led the Santa Ana (CA) Unified School District. The Santa Ana Unified School District is an urban school district of 53,000 students and 4,000 professional staff members located in Santa Ana, California. He held this position for 8 years. He earned his doctorate at the University of Southern California. Dr. Mijares currently serves on the Biola University Board of Trustees.
Immediately following the commissioning chapel service, guests visited the Heritage Room for a special exhibit featuring the history of the School of Education. The day was completed with a number of information sessions for prospective Education students, with special guest Michael Long, School of Education alumni and California Teacher of the Year for 2008.
