Program Requirements

To earn a California Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential as a graduate through Biola's Teacher Preparation Program, a student must complete:

  • A 2-unit prerequisite course;
  • 25 units of teacher preparation coursework;
  • 8 units of multiple subject course competencies; and
  • Additional state-required exams and certification.

(SEED 518 is required only for those students planning to student teach under contract or with an intern credential. Must be taken the summer prior to student teaching.)

All teacher preparation and multiple subject competency courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or higher with the exception of Elementary Student Teaching, which must be completed with a grade of "B-" or higher. Overall, a 2.75 GPA must be maintained in the teacher preparation course sequence.

Exams

The following exams must be passed prior to student teaching. RICA must be passed in order to apply for credential.

  • CBEST
  • U.S. Constitution (approved coursework or exam)
  • Subject Matter Preparation
  • RICA for Multiple Subject Credential only

Other

  • CPR Certification (infant, child and adult)
