Whether you've just earned a preliminary credential through another institution or you've been a classroom teacher for a while, Biola University's Master of Arts in Teaching program offers a track suited specifically to your needs, such as:

  • Induction. If you're working toward a clear credential through an induction program at your school, you can receive 12 units of credit by attending class one Saturday a month throughout your program.
  • Fifth Year Program. If you need a clear credential but work at a private school where an induction program isn't offered, our "Fifth Year Program" will earn you the credential and 12 units of credit.
  • Personalized Program. If you don't need a clear credential, you can select 12 units of coursework from the pre-approved concentrations or 12 units of pre-approved educational interests.

Your studies will include courses on vital topics for all teachers, such managing behavior in the classroom and spiritual formation.

You'll finish off the program with five core M.A.T. courses — several of which can be completed online — that focus on everything from intercultural education to philosophy to the life of Christ, the Master Teacher. With the online offerings, students can start their program at Biola, receive their teaching credential, and then finish the program at home through online mentoring. Start here — finish anywhere!
