As a new member of the English Department faculty, David Smith comes to Biola by way of a fifteen-year career in the private sector and, more recently, Vanderbilt University, where he completed his Ph.D. work and held positions as a teaching fellow and an instructor. His teaching and research focus primarily on Victorian literature, British modernism, critical theory, and cultural studies. However, his interests also include the history and theory of the novel, literary representations of technology, and science fiction. Currently, he is revising his dissertation entitled, “Under Lock and Key: Securing Property and Privacy in Victorian Literature and Culture,” for publication.
