The Spanish major consists of 39 units, 24 of which must be upper division Spanish courses.
Additionally, a minimum of 9 units of major elective units are required as well as Oral Interpertation (Comm 280) and History of Latin America (Hist 312).
Two program-related service-learning projects must be completed prior to graduation. All Spanish courses are taught in Spanish.
Students desiring to enroll in the Spanish program are strongly advised to do so during their freshman or sophomore years. Placement in Spanish classes will be based on a mandatory department assessment. Students entering the program with less than two years of high school Spanish or one semester of college Spanish will automatically be placed in the first course. Students who do not maintain continuous enrollment must be retested and placed accordingly.
A sample course schedule is available online.
Note: Advancement from one course in the lower division sequence to the next will require demonstration of proficiency.
