The Merry Wives of Windsor
Biola Opera Theater
Jan. 31, Feb. 1-2, 7-10

Opening the spring concert season, the Biola Conservatory of Music Opera Theater and symphony Orchestra will present Otto Nicolai's comic opera "The Merry Wives of Windsor". Based on Shakespeare's comedy of the same title, the story deals with a lascivious old knight, Sir John Falstaff, who, having run low on funds, decides to woo two wives of well-to-do citizens of Windsor, Mrs. Ford and Mrs. Page. when both women discover they have received the same love letter from the portly Falstaff, the outraged women decide to invent a ruse by which to teach the old lech a lesson, leading to a series of hilarious situations in which their husbands also learn a few lessons as well.

Dr. Jeanne Robison directs and Marlin owen conducts their seventh collaboration since 1998. For the second year, Aaron Benson will create sets and Tesia Benson will do the costumes. The cast is entirely comprised of Biola undergraduates, featuring junior Donte Apperwhite as the portly Falstaff.
