The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Cliff Hulling, released
its first recording in September, 2004. The album, entitled Crossroads,
was produced byJJ Will Kennedy, noted percussionist formerly with
the “Yellowjackets,” and features the Conservatory
Jazz Ensemble and some of LA’s finest jazz musicians, including
Justo Almario, Russell Ferrante, Harry Kim, Rique Pantoja, to name
just a few. The Conservatory is indebted to Mr. Kennedy
for assembling such an outstanding array of soloists. The recording
provided a tremendous opportunity for Conservatory students to
work with outstanding professionals in the field. Pieces
on the CD include an arrangement by Rique Pantoja of the Doxology,
featuring Judith Hill, vocalist and Conservatory student; Duke
Ellington’s, Take the “A” Train, and Sammy Nestico’s classic arrangement
of Ya Gotta Try...Harder. The recording is available for
purchase on the Conservatory website - click
