IN MEMORY OF MISSY

Missy Belton attended Biola as an oboe performance major for only a short time, yet she had a deep impact on the Conservatory community before her tragic death in an auto accident in April, 1999.  Since that time, her parents, Dr. Steve and Wanda Belton have continued to honor Missy’s memory through donations to the Conservatory and by providing tuition assistance to music students.

Last spring, the Beltons donated Missy’s Lorée English Horn to the Conservatory, and in turn the Conservatory’s English Horn was given to senior oboe major, Anna Epp (‘05). The result was an upgrade in the quality of the Conservatory English Horn and a much needed English Horn for Anna as she prepared for graduate school auditions. The presentation of the English Horn to the Conservatory was made at the annual Major Works concert in May. Dr. Belton began the program by sharing a few words in memory of Missy and then presented her English Horn to Symphony Orchestra conductor, Marlin Owen. The presentation was followed by the Prelude to Act III of Tristan und Isolde, featuring Anna Epp on English Horn. To learn more about Missy, go to www.dearmissy.org.
