I don't usually write reviews, but the other 2 reviews really helped me. It's hard to know what place might be safe and comfortable enough for your family when you aren't familiar with an area. So I hope this will help another family visiting Biola.
This Extended Stay America was great. The location is easily accessible, felt safe and clean, and is not far from Biola. The hotel staff were pleasant to deal with and very helpful. I was impressed at the value, a decent size room with full kitchen for $60. The vending machine is in the laundry room, as are the coin operated washers/dryers, which turned out to be a real blessing to me. I had Google Mapped the closest Trader Joes (which is a mere 7 miles away in Cerritos) before arriving, which made buying groceries for dinner and breakfast easy...and cheaper. (BTW, there's a Walmart in the same shopping center). But if you don't want to cook, there are several fast food restaurants just up the road (take Firestone to Valley View), including my favorite, In-N-Out Burgers. We explored the area around the hotel and Biola, and felt safe the whole time. The whole experience was enjoyable and I whole-heartedly recommend the Extended Stay America in La Mirada.
P.S. Found out that some friends (who's son goes to Biola) stay in this same Extended Stay America quite often and recommend it also. So this review can count for 2 families.

If you are on a very tight budget, you will find the accommodations adequate. The area seemed very safe and there were no issues with vehicle break-ins or anything of that sort. On the down side, there is no maid service if you stay less than 7 days. The beds were extremely firm. There was the smell of cigarette smoke throughout the hallways, but the room didn't smell of cigarettes. There were no vending machines or anyway to get water, sodas or anything of that sort. The staff was pleasant and they were willing to exchange clean towels for used towels. The price is about what the room is worth, which for me was $65 for the night. Hope this helps.
