Programmer/Analyst

Biola University is seeking a Programmer/Analyst to join our Information Technology team. Programmer/Analysts serve as a functional sub-set of the Application Services team within the Information Technology department. Each member contributes to the whole with a varying degree of experience, training, and aptitude – serving in part as a business analyst, web programmer/developer, and application administrator. The purpose of this position is to improve, develop, and support web applications for Information Technology and the University.

Responsibilities include:

Perform the duties of a business analyst: Gathers business requirements and develops specifications for customers. Provides analysis of how current and future services are meeting the needs of the business.

Perform the duties of a web programmer and developer: Designs, develops, and supports web applications and user interfaces (UI). Works with Integrated Marketing & Communications on user interface design as well as integration within Biola's websites. Implements web standards and best practices. Integrate web applications with existing standardized systems used for authentication, authorization, analytics, performance monitoring, and bug reporting.

Perform the duties of an application administrator: Configure, upgrade, and manage web applications. Monitor and maintain the health and security of web applications.

Maintain a lifestyle consistent with sound Christian principles and those promoted by the university.

Qualifications include:

       
  • A relevant BS degree is preferred; candidates with experience in Information Technology may also qualify.
  •    
  • Two plus years of web development and programming is preferred.
  •    
  • Solid understanding of and experience with web technologies such as AJAX, DHTML/CSS, XML/XSLT, REST, SOAP, and SSO.
  •    
  • Solid understanding of relational database design and experience with SQL databases such as MS SQL, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  •    
  • General knowledge of application and web security.
  •    
  • Familiarity with rapid development web frameworks such as .NET, Ruby on Rails, and Django.
  •    
  • Familiarity with and interest in web development best practices and Web 2.0 technology and trends.

Additional Comments

Applicants must be willing to work evenings and weekends as required.

$20.17 - 26.54/hr.
