Course Reserves
General Information
The Reserves Desk is located on the Middle Level of the Biola Library to the left of the main stairs. Reserves are made available for short term use and may include: faculty lecture notes, homework solutions, additional course reading assignments, faculty personal copies and certain library materials.
Faculty may also request an electronic copy of a document to be placed on Reserve (E-Reserves), as well as a link to a web page or full-text article available in one of the library databases.
When a faculty member submits a Reserves request, they must select the level of circulation: NL, 2hr., 24hr., 2 day, or 1 week.
- NL (Never Leave):
- Items with a yellow book strap or in a yellow folder may not leave the library. They can be read or photocopied within the building for 2 hours.
- 2 hr - Overnight:
- Items with an orange book strap or in an orange folder may leave the library, but must be returned within 2 hours. If used overnight, they can be checked out 2 hours before the library closes and must be returned 2 hours after the library opens.
- Special (24 hr., 2 day, or 1 week):
- Items with a green book strap or in a green folder may leave the library, but must be returned within the time frame specified (24 hours, 2 days, or 1 week).
Photocopiers are located on all three levels of the library. The cost to photocopy is $0.10 per page.
Fines, Renewals and Replacements
Fines for all types of Reserve materials are $0.50 per hour that the library is open for each item. Reserve overdue fines and replacement charges apply to Biola University students, staff, and faculty.
Reserves may be renewed at the Circulation Desk (unless needed by another patron).
There is a minimum $5.00 charge for the replacement of Reserve folders. Charges may be considerably higher depending on the material the folder contained. Replacement of other types of materials is subject to the discretion of the Public Services Librarian, but a $50 minimum replacement charge may be posted to the patron's account.
