Thirteenth Annual SCORR Conference Focuses on Racial Reconciliation
Conference to focus on needs of students from culturally diverse backgrounds
Biola University will be hosting the 13th annual Student Congress on Racial Reconciliation (SCORR) conference this weekend, February 27 -28, 2009. This year’s theme “Repairers of the Breach” draws from the verse Isaiah 58:12 — “You shall build the old waste places; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; You shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, the Restorer of the Streets to dwell in.”
The purpose of SCORR is to glorify God by empowering students to better face the challenges existing on their campuses, in their communities, and in society at large through multi-ethnic awareness and engaging in the active process of racial reconciliation. Christian colleges across California attend the conference.
“As we embark on the 13th annual SCORR, let us focus our hearts and minds on honoring God who cares for the afflicted soul, and we will find our souls will be as a watered garden…we will be called the Repairers of the Breach in our broken world,” reads the SCORR website.
Starting Friday, February 27 at 7 p.m. with worship, the keynote will be given by Soong-Chan Rah, Assistant Professor of Church Growth and Evangelism at North Park Theological Seminary. SCORR will end the evening with an ice cream social from 10 to 11 p.m. in the Collegium. SCORR mixes workshops with social interactions to create a balanced conference with fellowship and education.
“Through our sessions and interactions with one another we seek to grow in our vision for social justice and compassion for all peoples. We all play a crucial role in the building of the Kingdom of God on earth,” said Glen Kinoshita, Director of SCORR.
On Saturday, February 28, there will be a film and discussion session from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in Calvary Chapel, workshops, a keynote session with a question and answer time from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and an exciting Taiko Drum Fest will end the conference from 7 to 9 p.m. in Sutherland Auditorium.
The many presenters include professors and administrators from different universities, worship leaders, musicians and Biola alums and students.
