Biola Professor Interviewed on Rich Buhler’s Radio Show
Craig Hazen speaks on trends in Christian apologetics
Biola University Professor and Director of the Master of Arts program in Christian apologetics, Craig Hazen, spoke on Rich Buhler’s nationally syndicated radio show, “Talk from the Heart,” Tuesday, March 3, 2009 from 4 to 5 p.m. “Talk from the Heart” is a live, call-in, radio program broadcasted to Southern California beginning in the 80’s.
Hazen discussed Christian apologetics with Buhler, who is a Christian radio legend and has been in broadcasting for more than four decades. The topic was "new trends in Christian Apologetics" and the discussion ranged from atheism to Mormonism to almost everything in between.
One caller brought up the value of art and artistic inspiration in making our case for the Christian worldview. Hazen was quick to point out that he and several key scholars and thinkers at Biola make this case regularly — that the reality of beauty and art cannot be adequately accounted for through the naturalistic view of the world that predominates on secular university campuses.
Hazen also had an opportunity to show that apologetics seems to have a very different texture than it did thirty years ago. He said that in his graduate program they intentionally move students to a holistic view of defending the Gospel--that it needs to be done with great humility, with deep love for people, and accompanied by acts of service. Those elements, Hazen said, were very powerful tools in the hands of the Holy Spirit to move individuals and entire cultures toward the cross.
