Opening Weekend
August 21-22, 2009
Nearly 600 families from all over the US and the world came to campus August 21-22 to mark the beginning of their students’ college career at Biola. All day Friday, parents, residence assistants, and Biola staff helped move students and their belongings into the residence halls. After a long day of settling in, students joined their parents and other family members on Metzger Lawn where they were officially welcomed into the Biola community by Senior Director of Admissions, André Stephens, the admissions counselors, SOS student directors, and President Corey.
The Office of Parent Relations, with assistance from the Biola Parent Council and staff from Admissions, Alumni and Development Events, hosted 1,015 parents and family members for a Friday evening dessert, and a luncheon and barbeque dinner on Saturday. Between times of fellowship, parents had a number of informational seminars to attend that would help familiarize them with Biola and the college student experience. Opening Weekend came to a close Saturday evening following a time of praise, worship and communion led by President Corey.
