Objectives
As various programs have expanded and the university grows more complex, there is continued, significant pressure placed on our overall assessment capabilities. In developing and upholding its capacity to educational goals and assessing educational effectiveness, the university has determined to be more strategic and intentional in becoming a learning organization. In light of this, in September 2004, the university launched the Center for Learning Enrichment, Assessment, and Research (CLEAR), and created a new position of Director of University Assessment. This director reports to the Vice-Provost for Faculty Development and University Assessment.
The mission of CLEAR is to help spearhead the university’s efforts to become a more intentional learning organization, committed to educational effectiveness and excellence. With the goal to coordinate and assist in evaluation of Biola’s overall impact on the development of our students in both mind and character, the following are the objectives of CLEAR:
- To lead in the institutional efforts to achieve educational effectiveness and excellence, with a strategic focus on student learning and assessing student learning outcomes.
- To assist in the assessment of our institutional impact on the intellectual, spiritual, and character development of our students.
- To spearhead the universities efforts to become a more intentional learning organization, and to evaluate, coordinate, and support the curricular and co-curricular assessment efforts across campus.
- To effectively utilize the results of assessment for ongoing strategic planning and improvement of educational programs.
