The Department of Art creates an academic environment that thrives on the interrelationship of Biblical Christianity and artistic practice. It offers students a professional visual arts program with a rigorous curriculum that reflects a strong liberal arts emphasis and a solid Christian worldview.
What will I study?
For more than 15 years Department of Art has been an acknowledged leader in visual arts education. Today Biola alumni are working throughout the United States and around the world in a wide range of arts and art-related fields.
At Biola University, art majors are equipped with the aesthetic, technical, and conceptual skills necessary for success in the 21st century. The art program emphasizes understanding and responding to contemporary visual arts culture — its socio-political, philosophical and spiritual concerns. Art students are trained academically and spiritually to become servant-leaders who as artists/designers, understand the complex world in which they live and are a positive Christian influence.

Admissions Requirements
The Department of Art has an open admissions policy. Incoming first-year students and transfer students from other institutions may declare an art major when they apply for admission to Biola University.
All applicants are encouraged to apply for a limited number of competitive art scholarships based on a portfolio review. Download the Art Scholarship application and instructions. The deadline for submission of art portfolios is March 15th for the next academic year.
As an Art major at Biola, I have gained the ability to look at and engage art. I now have an excellent foundation in creating visual poetry and working with visual imagery. My professors have imparted their own wisdom, while still allowing me to learn and grow on my own. The faculty have pushed me personally, intellectually, and artistically and have provided me with a deep source of encouragement.
