The Department of English equips students to explore, from a faith-informed perspective, the complex narrative worlds of both literature and life that they might live out their callings more intelligently and compassionately.
What will I study?
English majors will gain an understanding of the uses of language as a means of exposition, persuasion and critical thinking, an ability to speak and write with clarity, and an understanding of literature as a record of the development of human thought and a reflection of cultural history.

Admissions Requirements
While there are no additional admissions requirements, those enrolling in the English major are expected to maintain a minimum of a B- average in their English classes. English majors are also expected to take the project of reading, writing, and literary analysis seriously, exemplifying the academic rigor necessary to excel in the field.
I gained a great deal from my in-class education, and I grew in character and developed as a person in ways I never could have otherwise. I can confidently say I know Jesus Christ better and am more equipped to impact the world for Him because of my time at Biola.
