Physical Science
The physical sciences deal with the most fundamental principles in the physical universe: matter and energy. The program is built around a core curriculum of physics, chemistry and mathematics classes. This inter-disciplinary approach is designed to give the student an understanding of the basic laws and theories of the physical world, the ability to do quantitative problem solving, and laboratory and technical skills.
What will I study?
Four emphases are available to physical Science students: Physics, Chemistry, and Physical Science Education (High School Teaching).Upon completion of one of these concentrations, the student will be able to expressan understanding of the basic laws and theories of physics and chemistry, demonstrate an ability to do quantitative problem solving, demonstrate good laboratory technique, acquire several technical skills, apply scientific methodology to a research problem and integrate scientific knowledge and theories with the Christian faith.
Emphases
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Physical Science Education
Why choose Physical Science at Biola?
- Integrate biblical training and Christian perspective with science
- Small class sizes will enable you to benefit from professors who have the time to individualize programs and meet specific needs
- The opportunity for student employment and internship in local industry
- Summer mission projects that allow students to use their technical skills
- Well-equipped laboratories
- Biola students are sought after both because of solid academic training and a lifestyle commitment that makes for a good employee
Admissions Requirements
There are no special admission requirements for the Physical Science major
Being a Physical Science major has been a rewarding and gratifying experience. I have gained a knowledge of the laws by which the physical universe functions, and the complexity of the world we live in. I have also befun to learn in what ways the laws that God put in place are intimately consistent with traditional Chrisitian theology."
– Dan Henriksen, Physical Science 2009
