Over 2,000 Biolans gathered at Dodger Stadium to cheer for the Dodgers on Sunday, Sept. 16, as one of the many events to celebrate Biola’s 100th anniversary. The Dodger game brought 51,000 fans together to enjoy a warm Sunday afternoon at the ballpark. Biolans feasted on the all-you-can-eat buffet while basking in the Biola spirit. The right pavilion was painted blue with students, staff, faculty, and other attendees wearing their commemorative “Biola loves the Dodgers” shirts.
Spirits were high as Biola’s new president, Dr. Corey, was introduced with his son, Anders, to throw the ceremonial first pitch. Coach John Verhoeven, Biola’s faithful baseball coach and former professional pitcher, played catcher to President Corey. The Biola crowd roared as their president threw the first pitch and the energy abounded for the rest of the afternoon.
Biola’s cheerleaders were also on hand to disperse t-shirts and visors to an eager crowd while the game played on; but it was the feisty freshman that got the crowd on their feet. While the cheerleaders led the crowd in the traditional B-I-O-L-A, 15 men showed their Biola and Dodger pride on their bare chests causing a raucous and getting noticed on the big screen.
