Students had the opportunity to hear multiple perspectives on theological issues when White Horse Inn, a nationally syndicated radio show, held a live taping on Biola’s campus in front of a packed audience in Calvary Chapel. The event focused on stimulating students’ spiritual and academic growth.

Hosts Michael Horton, Rod Rosenbladt, Kim Riddlebarger and Ken Jones held a discussion titled “Contending for the Faith” that explored how the apostles in the book of Acts defended their faith.

“When you get four people of this caliber, it’s intriguing what they have to say,” said Adam Rodriguez, Associated Students director of religious and academic relations.

Speakers focused on the apologetic sermons in Acts to see how faith should be contended for and defended in a proper manner. Questions were raised on whether the apostles shared their testimonies or their inner experiences in regards to defending their faith. The speakers came to a conclusion that the apostles show how to contend faith through the model of Christ and objective facts such as the crucifixion.

The AS department of Religious and Academic Relations sponsored the event to provide students opportunities to listen to different perspectives on various topics of theology.

“We wanted students to get exposed to different ways of thinking about issues relevant today,” said Rodriguez.

He hoped that people gained new perspective from attending the taping. He felt that people were deeply engaged in the topic, especially when people asked stimulating questions.

“The entire show was gospel centered and had a lot of scriptural truth,” said Rodriguez.

Michael Horton, founder of White Horse Inn, is a Biola alumnus.  During his undergrad years at Biola, he started the club C.U.R.E. (Christians United for Reformation), which held discussions about theology in culture and the church. The club inspired him to form the White Horse Inn radio show that has now aired for 20 years. Audio clips for the show will be available in the next few months.
