For two-time Biola University graduate Gabriela Cova, the math tutoring she received as a student at the Santa Ana-based nonprofit KidWorks played an important role in her future college success.

Now, Cova (’02, M.A. ’05) is investing her life back into the organization, hoping to make a difference in the lives of other young people, she told the Orange County Register in a recent profile article.

“Just the idea that you can invest in somebody's life and shape them as a teacher is like such a powerful thing,” said Cova, who majored in liberal studies and earned a master’s in education from Biola’s School of Education.

Cova is just one of many Biola graduates and students who work with KidWorks, which was founded in 1993 by Biola graduate Larry Acosta (’83, M.Div. ’88). The organization, which offers a variety of programs aimed at educating and building the character of young people in challenged neighborhoods in Santa Ana, is one of eight charities selected to receive funds from the Register's Season of Caring campaign.
