Inspired by the overwhelming amount of heartbreak that is found in the aftermath of an abortion, Biola professor of psychology, Gary Strauss co-authored a resource for healing — the book, Grief & Abortion: Creating a Safe Place to Heal. The book focuses on the healing process of those who have had abortions or have been affected by someone who has had an abortion.
Grief & Abortion gives practical advice on how to help one heal from the aftermath of an abortion, known to provoke an overwhelming amount of guilt and shame. Co-authored by four separate writers, each chapter within the book is interconnected, each focusing on what it means to heal or to be there for a person who is grieving an abortion.
According to the Guttmacher Institute, a research institute that has observed abortion, “At least half of American women will experience an unintended pregnancy by age 45, and, at current rates, one in 10 women will have an abortion by age 20, one in four by age 30 and three in 10 by age 45.”
In 2008, 1.21 million American women had an abortion, according to the Guttmacher Institute.
In light of the statistics, the amount of people affected and influenced by the actions of abortion is tremendous. Grief & Abortion gives insight on how one can respond well to those who are suffering from their difficult decision.
