More than $4,000 was raised to benefit Biola clubs and local organizations at Biola’s third annual 5K “Run for funds.” With more than 400 runners, this year’s 5K on Saturday, Oct. 26 was the most attended since Biola started hosting the annual run during Biola Weekend in 2011.
Each runner was able to donate $10 from their registration for the 5K to their chosen club or organization. This year, Biola partnered with the city of La Mirada to host the event.
“It was great working with the city of La Mirada,” said Alumni Relations Director, Don Bernstein. According to Bernstein Biola and La Mirada each covered different needs pertaining to the 5K — Biola mainly taking care of race and venue preparations.
While there were thirteen total organizations available for contribution, the greater amount of funds poured in for Biola Student Scholarships and Adventure Club.
Participants could designate their funds to one of the following organizations:
- Biola Adventure Club
- Biola Center for Christian Thought
- Biola Men's Lacrosse Team
- Biola Women's Lacrosse Team
- Biola Student Scholarships
- Benton Middle School WEB Crew
- Benton Middle School ASB & AVID
- Hutchinson Middle School ASB
- Hutchinson Middle School WEB
- La Mirada Bobby Sox Girls' Softball
- La Mirada Foundation
- La Mirada Hi School Boys' Basketball
- Water Wells for Africa
Bernstein expects the run to be even larger next year and looks forward to working with the city again. While this years event was considered a great success, he said, “We look forward to an even bigger event together next year!
