Students, faculty and staff gathered in Biola's Chase Gymnasium on Monday, January 27 to kick off the first day of classes at the Spring 2014 Convocation Ceremony.
After a processional of Biola faculty, board members, and PAC, the program began with a song of worship, an invocation by Chad Miller, Director of Spiritual Formation, and a welcome by President Barry H. Corey. Provost Dr. David P. Nystrom introduced new Torrey Honors faculty member, Todd Thompson and the new Dean of the Library/Media Services, Gregg Geary.
Evan Tan, AS President, and Danny Paschall, Dean of Students, stood to present new students to the Biola community. President Corey gave a charge to the new students to respond to God’s call to have their hearts and minds more deeply transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ, and with that love to serve those around them.
2 Corinthians 5:14-20 and Romans 12:2 were read by Behzad Varamini, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences which lead into the official Convocation address entitled, "What Are We Doing Here" by Provost Dr. David Nystrom. To end the service, worship was lead by Amir Girgis & Worship Team and the benediction was given by Lari Mobley, Associate Professor of Marketing, before the crowd was dismissed.
