Biola University’s Campaign National Tour continued on Friday, Oct. 16, with an event at San Diego’s Natural History Museum, in Balboa Park, Calif. Biola University President Barry H. Corey was joined by keynote speaker and Board of Trustees member Adam Edgerly, and more than 50 alumni, parents and staff.
After the museum closed for the day, the Biola University welcomed guests to a unique event space, complete with a dinosaur skeleton and hanging marine life models. Attendees had the opportunity to connect with one another over hors d’oeuvres and enjoy student artwork or vignettes of artifacts and photographs from Biola’s history before the program.
Adam Edgerly (’86, M.A. ’91), alumnus, Board of Trustees member and pastor of Newsong LA, was the keynote speaker for the evening. He reflected on his Biola University experience and how that shaped him for his life of ministry since graduating. He shared about how his group of friends would meet to pray in the Rose of Sharon chapel and talk about taking over the world for Christ, viewing as a model William Wilberforce and the Clapham sect, a group of diligent believers in 19th-century England who were able to bring about the end of slavery in the British Empire.
“When I think of all my friends at Biola and the prayers we prayed, and then look at where we are all now, God was faithful to those prayers. Those men and women are in key places in all sorts of industries, being lights for Christ in their work,” he said.
Edgerly also shared about his support for the vision and projects of The Campaign for Biola University.
“Biola University prepares people to take the scriptures into every aspect of life, to teach people and show them the deep answers of life. That we are building a science building excites me, because we need to continue sending men and women out into the world who are prepared to tackle key issues like cloning, artificial intelligence, robotics and more from a biblically grounded perspective,” said Edgerly.
Biola University President Barry H. Corey introduced guests to the details of A Soul of Conviction, A Voice of Courage: The Campaign for Biola University. He shared about why Biola is embarking on this endeavor, and why the timing is right now.
“We need more Christians of conviction and courage in the vital areas of society, and that’s why we are undertaking the largest campaign in Biola’s history,” he said.
To date, almost $90,000 has been raised on the Campaign National Tour, adding to the cumulative campaign total of $158 million.
The event in San Diego concludes the local schedule of Campaign National Tour events for the fall. The next event, and first international stop, will take place in Seoul, South Korea on Nov. 19. The national schedule will resume in 2016 with the first event in Phoenix, Ariz. in January.
