The caliber of excellence in teacher training and faculty at Biola’s School of Education was affirmed this spring in high remarks in a final report presented to the Commission on Accreditation (COA). The  California Commission on Teaching Credentialing (CTC) visiting site accreditation committee reviewed Biola’s standards for the university’s teaching credential programs and awarded Biola the highest possible marks in all areas of the accreditation process.

“I am grateful to the Lord for outstanding results and for such an amazing team with whom to work,” said June Hetzel, dean of Biola’s School of Education. “I am extraordinarily grateful to our directors, faculty, staff, and community partners for extended efforts over a two-year period preparing for the site accreditation visit. Superintendents, Principals, Master Teachers, Cooperating Teachers, internship and externship supervisors, as well as faculty, staff, and students gathered for extended interviews throughout the day (and the week) with the visiting accreditation team when they were here.”

The report shows that Biola School of Education graduates are well prepared to enter the classroom as the teacher or therapist and exceed program expectations.

“Candidates and completers across programs indicate that they are well prepared to begin their professional careers as educators,” reported the CTC committee in their final report. “Superintendents, principals, and school district human resources administrators reported that the teachers and other school personnel they hire from the SOE are the best that they hire. They further stated that the candidates demonstrate leadership skills from their earliest experiences in the classroom.”

Biola’s teaching credential programs include speech-language pathology, multiple subject, single subject, special education, and induction for clear credentials were reviewed for the report. Biola’s School of Education offers a range of graduate and undergraduate programs that provide biblically centered and California-certified training to prepare graduates to be highly effective and marketable teachers in the public and private school systems. The CTC committee found this to be true for every program in their report.

“Program completers and current candidates confirm that the course of study prepared them for the varied experiences and professional responsibilities of being a credentialed expert in the classroom,” stated the report. “The District Field Supervisors also confirmed that Biola’s student teachers enter the student teaching experience well-prepared and knowledgeable in educational theory and practice as well as the required elements of the clinical experience.”
