After an extensive national search and interview process, Biola University has selected Dr. Doug Daugherty to serve as the dean of the Rosemead School of Psychology, effective August 31.

Daugherty comes to Biola from Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) in Marion, Indiana, where he served for 23 years as a professor of addictions and psychology and most recently as the executive dean of IWU’s College of Arts and Sciences, where he served as dean of the School of Social & Behavioral Sciences and Business. For nearly three years in his role as the dean, he led by emphasizing faculty recruitment, retention and development, as well as diversity, inclusion and equity. He has led in seasons of transitions, opportunities and challenges with an emphasis on staying true to the school’s mission, student success and financial health.

“As I learned more about Doug, his experience and passion for faculty development and student flourishing, I was excited about the prospect of having him lead Rosemead,” said Deborah Taylor, provost and senior vice president of Biola. “I believe he will lead Rosemead with wisdom, compassion and a collaborative spirit. He brings a wealth of experience as well as the accolades of all who have benefited from his godly leadership.”

Daugherty is a licensed clinical psychologist with research interests in student belonging and success, positive psychology and spiritual formation. He has published in the areas of substance abuse and recidivism, as well as mobile technology, specifically ecological momentary assessment (EMA) and ecological momentary intervention (EMI) utilizing smartphones. He has an interest in testing smartphone tools as a “means of extending the reach of positive psychology and psychotherapy” and enjoys collaborating with others to understand behavior.

Daugherty earned a bachelor’s degree from Franklin College, a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Ball State University and a doctorate from Indiana State University. He is the founder of Grace House, a faith-based recovery home in Marion, Indiana, and is founding partner of LifeData, LLC, a tool that provides real-time insights for research and clinical trials.

Dr. Tamara Anderson, professor of psychology at Rosemead and dean of administration, has been serving as the interim dean for the past two years and is now serving as Biola University’s associate provost of academic effectiveness and administration.

Rosemead School of Psychology, founded in 1968, became the first independent professional school of psychology in the nation recognized by a regional accrediting association. From its beginnings in the city of Rosemead, California, Rosemead primarily focused on training clinical psychologists from a Christian perspective. Today, Rosemead is a top psychology school accredited by the American Psychological Association, with leading undergraduate and graduate programs that train aspiring psychologists through the integration of psychology and theology.
