LA MIRADA, CALIF. — Theologians from around the world visited Biola University to discuss pneumatology, the study of the Holy Spirit for the eighth annual Los Angeles Theology Conference (LATC). This year’s conference was in partnership with Biola’s Center for the Study of the Work and Ministry of the Holy Spirit Today to address the theme.

The LATC is an annual collaboration between Fred Sanders, associate director of Biola University’s Torrey Honors College, and Oliver Crisp, professor at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

“Oliver Crisp and I started the conference, in cooperation with Katya Covrett at Zondervan Academic, just to provide a forum where theologians from this region could gather and talk about major doctrines. Now that LATC is eight years old, it has grown into a recognized and established event on the international theology calendar,” said Sanders.

The LATC is comprised of theologians from diverse denominational backgrounds, as well as diverse global backgrounds with attendees and speakers coming from Brazil, Canada, Scotland, Columbia and England. The event is sponsored by international Christian media and publishing company, Zondervan, who will publish their annual book based on the conference.

The Los Angeles Theology Conference is held annually in Southern California. Each year it focuses on a different theological doctrine, including topics such as the Incarnation, the Trinity, and the Atonement covered in previous years. The LATC is the premiere conference in academic systematic theology on the West Coast. The Conference was started with the purpose of establishing a better climate for academic theology in the western region of the United States.

The Center for the Study of the Work and Ministry of the Holy Spirit Today is a resource center housed at Talbot School of Theology at Biola University. Founded in 2017, the center is meant to equip Christians to be transformed and empowered by the Holy Spirit and works to build a greater understanding and experience of the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit Center is hosting the Ablaze 2020 Conference on October 8-10, 2020, with the purpose of celebrating the work of the Holy Spirit in the Jesus People Movement.
