LA MIRADA, CALIF. — Biola University’s Crowell School of Business is leading the conversation on AI and how it intersects with faith and business. A new speaker series, EngageX, will bring together distinguished business leaders to speak on relevant industry topics and explore advancements and projects in various pioneering fields and industries. For the 2024-2025 school year, EngageX will focus on the pressing issue of AI in correspondence with the launch of the Biola AI Lab and the new AI Venture Studio.

“We are thrilled to be launching our new Biola EngageX series where anyone in the business industry can join us to learn, engage and exchange ideas,” said Dr. Michael Arena, the dean of the Crowell School of Business. “Throughout our upcoming series, Crowell School of Business will engage in a world driven by AI, so we can shape its human value — not be shaped by it. In doing so, we can use AI to amplify what makes us uniquely human: creativity, authenticity and morality.”

Not only did the introduction of AI accelerate the already rapidly changing technological landscape, but it brought into question what its increasing use means for human ingenuity and ethics. Biola strives to be proactive about maximizing AI’s potential for human progress in a way that aligns with biblical values and preserves the dignity of human work.

The series started on Sept. 12 with Dr. Yohan Lee’s presentation on “A Redemptive AI Future.” Lee’s presentation explored topics such as the current AI landscape and trends, a vision for the redemptive use of AI, warning of potential AI risks and a hopeful look at AI’s potential for unprecedented opportunities.

“The lecture on Redemptive AI will expose areas where AI may reverse some of the harms incurred from technology over the last decade,” said Lee. “AI is the next opportunity to create a more just society in the U.S. and abroad. As a Christian University, we aim to produce men and women of God committed to transforming the world for Christ.”

The next EngageX will take place on Monday, Oct. 28 and the speaker will be announced in the coming weeks.
