Biola’s Christian apologetics programs — including the Master of Arts in Christian Apologetics, widely recognized as one of the world’s foremost apologetics programs, and the Master of Arts in Science and Religion — have officially joined Talbot School of Theology after receiving accreditation by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS).
“There has always been a close relationship between Christian apologetics and Talbot School of Theology,” said Talbot Dean Clinton E. Arnold. “But now that relationship has been strengthened even more.” Since its beginnings, Christian apologetics has been accredited by WASC Senior College and University Commission, a regional accreditor, but these two master’s programs are now dually accredited.
“The Talbot administration and faculty are thrilled to work more closely with Christian apologetics — both to learn from their innovative delivery model and to identify ways to work collaboratively and more effectively for kingdom purposes,” Arnold said.
Both programs in Christian apologetics are available in flexible formats, including hybrid or distance learning. They also offer an online certificate program. Students in the program take a variety of innovative courses taught by world-class faculty such as William Lane Craig, J.P. Moreland, Sean McDowell, Kevin Lewis, R. Scott Smith and others.
The master’s in science and religion is designed to provide scientifically literate individuals with the essential background in theology, history and philosophy that is necessary to integrate modern science with Christianity.
“We [the apologetics program] were already so tightly connected to [Talbot’s] philosophy program, as well as theology and biblical studies, that coming together as a family ... makes all the sense in the world,” said Craig Hazen, founder and director of both apologetics programs. “Our students will benefit, our faculty will benefit and our collective kingdom ministries will benefit.”
