Deborah O’Dell’s area of interest is in mental health and illness and its impact on every patient a nurse will care for. She teaches the following courses in the B.S.N. program: Nursing of the Mental Health Patient and Family and Nursing Assessment of the Patient. She also enjoys taking nursing students to a facility to care for a primarily homeless population and has integrated faith and spirituality into her Mental Health class using online modules. She uses interactive learning strategies including role-plays, case studies, poster making, and free-write. She has published articles and presented on the importance of mental health for patients and nurses, and the ethical use of technology in the health care setting.
