Robin Zimmerman

Technical Writer and Publisher

Art, B.F.A. '08

Being at Biola, surrounded by professors and friends living so faithfully for Christ, inspired me to deepen my faith too. Torrey helped me to read and think about the Bible in ways I never had, and my art professors helped me to understand the ways in which I could use my God-given talents and desires to better serve his kingdom and people.

How did your program at Biola prepare you for your career?
Being a member of Torrey helped reveal my love of writing (and studying writing), along with my love of reading, discussion, books and the importance of ideas. I have sought out all of these aspects in every job I've held, especially in my graduate and doctoral work.

What did you appreciate most about your time at Biola?
I loved being a part of both Torrey and the Art Department. Those experiences made me a better person — being able to think deeply, compassionately and respectfully consider ideas different from my own, and to feel the love and beauty of God in creation and in art. I made lasting, deep friendships during my time at Biola, and was exposed to big ideas and pushed to work very hard.

How did Biola equip you to be a more faithful follower of Jesus Christ?
Being at Biola, surrounded by professors and friends living so faithfully for Christ, inspired me to deepen my faith too. Torrey helped me to read and think about the Bible in ways I never had, and my art professors helped me to understand the ways in which I could use my God-given talents and desires to better serve his kingdom and people.

What advice would you give to students considering your degree program?
Both Torrey and the Art Department were (and are I believe) phenomenal. They will transform you and teach you lessons you'll be thinking about for the rest of your life. While the format of Torrey might be something students aren't used to, I encourage them to seek out more information, sit in on a session, and talk to current students and professors to gain more insight into whether it would be a good fit for them. There is of course a lot of reading and writing.
