Since we’ve attended three times now, it’s officially a tradition . . . an annual trip to the Hollywood Bowl with alumni and friends of Biola University.

Nearly 200 alumni enjoyed a Hollywood Bowl favorite, the annual Tchaikovsky Spectacular, gathering on Friday evening, August 20.  The celebration began with boxed dinners catered by Biola’s own Bon Appetit, enjoyed in the park-like setting of the Highland Camrose picnic area. Rick Bee, senior director of alumni and friends development, acted as host for the dinner, greeting guests and engaging them in a Biola trivia game during the meal.

The all-Tchaikovsky program was performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, with Bramwell Tovey conducting. Latvian violinist Baiba Skride was featured on Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, Op. 35, and the program closed with the 1812 Overture, featuring the USC Trojan marching band, cannon, and fireworks—always a crowd-pleaser.
