A delighted group of alumni and friends were transported to the Serengeti on Thursday, May 27, enjoying the brilliant costumes and imaginative sets of Disney’s The Lion King at the Orange County Performing Art Center’s Segerstrom Hall.
The evening began with dinner at Antonello’s, where guests met and mingled over a sumptuous Italian buffet, followed by the show, which brought rave reviews from Biola guests. Alumna Leslie Green (’09) wrote to say, “The magic of Disney has always been persuading us that animals are real people. The brilliance of the Lion King stage production is the costuming that accomplishes this without having the characters seem in the least cartoonish, morphing actors into their alter egos with beautiful creations that seem an extension of the actor’s body. I thoroughly enjoyed being transported to the African savannah with Rafiki, Pumbaa, and the rest. More like this, please.” Terri Pixler, current Biola parent and staff member, was similarly enthusiastic as she commented, “I was in tears at the first note. Lion King is a theater experience that never grows old! Thank you so much for arranging this very special evening!”
