The annual Alumni Awards were presented in chapel February 18 to four distinguished Biolans (Dr. Larry Acosta, 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award; Matthew Anderson, 2011 Young Alumnus Award; Norma Blackwater, MD, 2011 Cultural Impact Award; George and Wendy Payton, Clyde Cook Missions Award). Senior Director of Alumni, Dr. Rick Bee, interviewed the awardees, sharing their experiences and wisdom gained with students in attendance.
Following chapel, the annual Golden Eagles Luncheon celebrated Biola’s 50-year alumni (graduates of the class of 1961), beginning with prayers and remarks by Dr. George Vogel (’61) and Rev. Ron Hafer (’61). After lunch, attendees took turns sharing stories of favorite professors, dorm life and even college pranks at Biola fifty years ago. This unique alumni group commuted between two Biola campuses—the original downtown LA campus as well as the “new” La Mirada campus—forming lifelong memories and relationships. Their shared love of God, His Word and service to others is evident in their vitality, energy and enthusiasm for their alma mater!
