Professional Christian philosophers like Mike Austin continue to make waves not only in the academic arena but in non-academic environments, as well.

An alumnus from Biola’s Talbot School of Theology Philosophy of Religion & Ethics graduate program, Austin represents a growing “micro-trend,” as some would say, of professional philosophers in North America and Europe who not only have stature in academe but who are using such “capital” to speak to broader audiences than just members of their own professional guild.

I recently interviewed Austin about his writing on ethics on the Psychology Today website, along with his passion to see the good of wise, philosophical reflection and insight accessible to everyone, including non-academic audiences.

Austin is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Eastern Kentucky University and the author or editor of various books, including Conceptions of Parenthood (Ashgate, 2007) and Wise Stewards: Philosophical Foundations for Christian Parenting (Kregel, 2009).

For Austin, philosophical reflection is integral to everyday life, including areas like exercise and sports, which he is also reflected on in published form.

In the interview, Austin talks about how his philosophy work connects with some felt-needs of his readers. Moreover, he sees his work in ethics on his Psychology Today blog as contributing to Christian apologetics.

You can learn more about Austin’s work, leadership and influence by reading the full-text of the interview here.
