LA MIRADA, CALIF. — Biola University announces Dan Lin, producer of “The Lego Movie,” currently the highest grossing film of 2014, as one of the keynote speakers for the 2014 Biola Media Conference, the nation’s largest conference for Christians in the entertainment industry, on May 3, 2014.

The conference, themed “Great Producers” will feature insight and advice from producers in the film and television industry. Conference workshops will explore success stories and practical tips from leading professionals in entertainment.

“My hope is that the BMC can help to educate people about what it's really like to work in Hollywood, both the wins and the losses,” said Lin. “For me it's important to encourage and inspire filmmakers who are experiencing their own personal and creative challenges. My own film career started because I attended a conference like BMC, so I’m honored to speak at this year’s conference.”

“The Lego Movie” has currently earned over $400 million worldwide. On its opening weekend, the film grossed $69.1 million, setting records as the biggest opening in February of all-time for any animated film. Additionally, it set a record for being the second-largest February opening of all-time, falling just behind Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ.”

Alongside Lin, the conference will feature insights from Owen Shiflett, AMC director of development on shows such as “Breaking Bad,” “Mad Men” and “The Walking Dead,” along with two-time Emmy-winning cinematographer Roy Wagner.

“The BMC asks Hollywood to consider if it’s helping people to ask the big questions of life in a creative and catalytic way,” said Jack Hafer, director of Biola’s Cinema & Media Arts program.

Lin, who has an extensive creative portfolio, also produced the films “Gangster Squad” and “Sherlock Holmes” and is expected to produce a sequel to the “The Lego Movie” and “Sherlock 3” in upcoming years.

Lin earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania. While pursuing a master’s degree from Harvard Business School, Lin participated in a summer internship at Warner Bros. Studios. After receiving his MBA, he accepted a creative executive position in the film production group at Warner Bros. By 2006, he had worked his way to Senior Vice President of production. Two years later, he left to start Lin Pictures, a production company with both a feature film and television deal at Warner Bros.

Lin serves on the Board of Directors for several non-profit organizations - the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment; Pepperdine University's Center for Entertainment, Media, and Culture; and the I Dream of Fish Foundation. He and his family attend Ecclesia Church in Hollywood, CA.

In its 18th year, the Biola Media Conference exists to educate, inspire, and network media professionals while providing creative inspiration into the spiritual nature of any career in the media industry. BMC attracts participants who will benefit from direct interaction with acclaimed industry pros who are at the top of their craft. From CEOs to students, attendees secure valuable information, insight, and contacts that strengthen their character and their careers.
