LA MIRADA, CALIF. — Biola University will host the fourth annual Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 12. The 2015 inductees are Jessica (Logsdon) Pistole (’02),  Ben Orr (’01) and former university president Clyde Cook (’57).

“This will be an exciting night,” said Biola’s athletic director, Dave Holmquist. “Our three inductees represent multiple sports in different eras. We are especially excited to honor the life accomplishments of Dr. Cook and his history with Biola.”

Pistole was a dual-sport athlete at Biola from 1998 to 2002. She played volleyball and softball for the Eagles under coaches Ryan McGuyre and Mike Smith.

She was the Eagles’ ace pitcher from 1999 to 2002 and holds the program’s career records for wins (80), ERA (0.88), saves (13), appearances (134), starts (106), complete games (88), shutouts (32), innings pitched (757.2), batters faced (2,920), fewest walks per game (0.95) and total strikeouts (580). Her best season was 2001, when she won the GSAC Pitcher of the Year award, was named a NAIA All-American and set Biola’s single-season wins record with a 25-6 mark and a 0.68 ERA. She also earned three All-GSAC honors in softball and could handle a bat too, ranking third on Biola’s all-time hits list (229) and runs list (139).

She was a defensive player on the volleyball court, leading the team in blocks in 1999, digs in 2001 and service aces twice. She still holds the single-season service ace record (91) and the single-match service aces record in three-set and four-set matches. Pistole becomes the first softball player elected to the Biola Athletics Hall of Fame and the second volleyball player.

Orr was also a dual-sport athlete for the Eagles during his time studying at Biola. He played soccer and baseball for the Eagles’ athletic department from 1996 to 2001.

He’s got a combined three NAIA All-American honors across his time at the university. Orr was a stud on the bump and in the box for the Eagles’ baseball team as he raked in the honors at Eagles Diamond in the late-1990s and early-2000s. He was a part of the total transformation of Biola Baseball. The team finished fifth in the conference during his freshman season and won the GSAC Championship each of his three other seasons, including a berth in the NAIA World Series in 2001. He was twice named the Golden State Athletic Conference MVP on the diamond and was named to the Baseball All-GSAC team three times. Orr ranks inside of the top-10 all-time in six offensive categories and four pitching categories.

He was just as talented on the pitch, getting named NAIA All-American in 1999 and picking up three All-GSAC honors. He is inside of the Eagles’ top-15 all-time in goals (26) and total points (68). Orr becomes the third baseball player and second men’s soccer player inducted into the Biola Athletics Hall of Fame.

Cook is known most for his work as the president of Biola University from 1982 through 2007, but he was also a fantastic basketball player who had scholarship offers from many NCAA Division I schools, including the University of Southern California (USC).

He chose Biola and had a remarkable run of success in various capacities within the athletic department. He had a tremendous career while competing in the Southern California Christian College Conference. He led the league with a 30.1 points-per-game scoring average as a freshman and went on to win two league championships with the Eagles. He averaged in the high-20s throughout his four-year career and spent his senior season as a player-coach. Following his time as a player and coach, Cook became the school’s Athletic Director from 1957 to 1960.

Cook passed away in 2008 at the age of 72. Cook is the third Biola men’s basketball player to be inducted into the Biola Athletics Hall of Fame and the first former administrator.

Pistole’s former coaches will introduce her during the ceremony. Orr’s father and former coach, Matt Orr will introduce him, and Biola president Barry H. Corey will introduce Annabelle Cook, who will accept the honor in place of her late husband.

The ceremony and dinner will take place in the Andrews Banquet Room at 7 p.m. PST.
