Biola University’s track and field teams kicked off the new season with renovated facilities. The campus track and field received a facelift with new upgrades and renovations including a new turf system, a lane addition to the track and installing a Biola athletics logo at the center of the field.
“The branding of the field elevates the aesthetic appeal to spectators, opponents and the community,” said Bethany Miller, Biola University’s director of athletics. “It is one more excellent development in our facilities, like having lighting, that makes Biola University a top venue.”
The new turf system comes from Revolution 360 fiber that features infill technology designed to provide the same biomechanical properties as natural grass. The turf’s infill is made of exclusive cork composite making it approximately 35 degrees cooler than most other turfs.
Biola’s track and field requires less maintenance than those made from natural grass, as it does not need any irrigation and considerably safer without divots and uneven ground that are potentially dangerous.
Revolution 360 is quickly becoming one of the most popular turfs in the U.S. as it contains the industry’s most complete fiber, giving Biola’s track and field a new sense of durability, resilience and feel. Biola will join the impressive list of current users like the CenturyLink Field, home to the Seattle Seahawks and Sounders, Gillette Stadium, home to the New England Patriots and Revolution, and Princeton University.
Other additions with the new track include a completely renovated track throws facility on McNally field. The area has been fully upgraded with new fencing all around to increase the safety of the facility. Also, over the past year the athletic department purchased all new pole vault equipment.
Funding for the summer track & field renovation project was paid for by bond dollars and a contribution from a university partner.
