For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’ — Deuteronomy 15:11 (ESV)

OPEN WIDE YOUR HAND presents new works by artists Christopher Chinn and Jason Leith. Pushing against the societal tendency to look the other way, both artists use their studio practices to directly and personally engage with those who are homeless in our local communities — presenting the people and their makeshift living spaces as worthy of our sustained attention. Their humbly generous and ennobling posture challenges viewers to reconsider assumptions
about the current homelessness crisis, its proximity and ubiquity, and reflects a more fully integrated view of the city to include those who are unhoused as our marginalized neighbors living in the shadows.
