We invite you to join us for a visiting artist presentation from acclaimed artist Shawn Michael Warren at the Kim Dining Room — adjacent to The Caf’ — Tuesday, February 15, at 4:30 p.m.
Warren’s large-scale drawing “Troubled Waters” is currently on display in the Green Art Gallery here at Biola — part of the exhibition THE SEA WE MUST WADE. Join us to learn more about the inspiration behind “Troubled Waters” and to discover more about Warren’s art practice.
Warren draws on his extensive training in classical oil painting and deep knowledge of art history to bring attention and awareness to events and individuals - past and present - that are often overlooked and underrepresented. In this work, he seeks to communicate essential human truths and engage with contemporary conversations about race and culture through allegorical figure paintings that often reference historical narratives and speak directly to the experiences of people of color.
In addition to his studio work, Warren has also established himself as a highly sought after muralist, creating a number of large-scale public murals in cities — and at schools and universities — across the United States, including large public murals at Dr. Maya Angelou Community High School and at Charles Drew University / King-Drew Medical Center here in Los Angeles.
