While an important aspect of Paul's emphasis in this passage is to ensure that the ministry enacted by believers in service to the church is motivated by a deep and abiding love, this love is not something that we can stir up within ourselves. Instead, we receive it as part of the eschatological down payment of the "perfect" which arrives through Christ's work of "knowing" us fully. Only once we are able to be fully loved by Christ are we then able to fully love those whom we are serving.
