About the Department of Art
Cultivating the Creative Spirit
The Department of Art, housed within the Division of the Visual and Performing Arts at Biola University’s School of Fine Arts and Communication, is home to a dynamic community of creatives dedicated to pursuing artistic excellence. In addition to being one of only a few Christian art programs with a nationally accredited B.F.A. (accredited by NASAD, the National Association of the Schools of Art and Design), the Department of Art focuses on equipping students with the clear artistic perspective and technical skill they need to excel in the workplace.
Our professional visual arts program and rigorous curriculum reflect a strong liberal arts emphasis and a solid Christian worldview. It’s our conviction that God, in his Word (Exodus 31:1–5), establishes a biblical grounding for the arts — that art can be used to enrich and beautify worship and everyday life. Our mission is simple, yet profound: to guide students in their artistic and spiritual formation, and to help them fulfill their unique, sacred calling in culture.
