Complimentary over-the-counter medicines are available for our students during Health Center open hours. View our recommendations on medications for common ailments.

Alcalak (like Tums)
Uses: For heartburn and indigestion.
Directions: Chew 2 tablets every 2 hours. Do not take more than 18 tablets in 24 hours.
Alcohol Pad
Uses: For cleaning of minor scratches and irritations.
Directions: Tear open package and gently use wipe to cleanse affected area. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. May cause a burning or stinging sensation on open skin.
APAP (like Tylenol)
Directions: Take 2 tablets every 4-6 hours. Do not take with ibuprofen, Mygrex, aspirin, or CCP
Aspirin
Directions: Take 2 tablets every 4 hours. Do not exceed 12 tablets in 24 hours. Do not take aspirin if you are pregnant or nursing, if you have the flu or chickenpox, if you have an ulcer or bleeding condition, or if you are taking blood thinning medication (anticoagulants). Do not take with APAP, ibuprofen, or Diotame.
Bacitracin (like Neosporin)
Uses: An antibacterial ointment for minor cuts and scrapes.
Directions: Apply a small amount and smooth over affected area. Cover with a gauze bandage or band-aid if needed. For external use only. Do not use longer than one week.
Band-Aids
Uses: To cover superficial skin irritations or cuts to protect from dirt. Seek medical attention if skin becomes red, swollen, or if drainage occurs
Cold & Cough Relief
Please note: Do not use the following cold medications if taking a MAOI - used to treat depression and other mental health conditions.
Uses: For sinus or chest congestion, sore or scratchy throat, headache and cough.
Directions: Take 2 tablets every 4 hours as needed. Do not exceed 10 tablets in 24 hours. Contains APAP (Tylenol). Do not take with APAP (Tylenol), Medi-phenyl, Guiafensin cough syrup, or other combination medications.
Chlorophen
Uses: For sneezing, watery eyes, increased nasal drainage, or itchy nose and throat.
Directions: Take 1 tablet every 4-6 hours. May cause drowsiness.
Cool Jel
Directions: Apply gel without rubbing 3-4 times a day. This is not for serious burns. Seek medical attention if your burn has blisters or has damaged your skin. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes
Cherry Cough Drops
Directions: Use as needed for throat irritation and cough
Cramp Tabs
Uses: For menstrual cramps, headache, and backache.
Directions: Take 2 tablets every 6 hours. Do not exceed 6 tablets in 24 hours. Do not take with APAP, ibuprofen, Mygrex, and CCP. May cause drowsiness.
Diamode (like Imodium AD)
Uses: For loose, watery bowel movements from gastrointestinal flu or food sensitivities.
Directions: Take 2 tablets after the first bowel movement followed by 1 tablet after each subsequent bowel movement. Do not use more than 4 tablets in 24 hours. Drink plenty of fluids when taking this product. Seek medical attention within 24 hours if diarrhea has not improved.
Diotame (like Pepto Bismol)
Uses: For heartburn, indigestion, nausea, reflux, and mild diarrhea.
Directions: Chew 2 tablets every hour. Do not exceed 16 tablets in 24 hours. Contains aspirin. Do not take if allergic to aspirin. Do not take if pregnant or nursing, if you have chickenpox, or if you have flu-like symptoms. May cause tongue and bowel movements to turn black in color. Do not take with aspirin or blood thinners.
EZ Scrub
Uses: For cleansing cuts and scrapes shortly after injury to remove dirt and debris.
Directions: Unwrap packaging and wet antiseptic sponge with warm water. Gently scrub affected area for 2-3 minutes and rinse well. Pat area dry with a paper towel. Use other products listed for wound care as needed. Keep away from eyes.
Gauze & Tape
Uses: To cover small scrapes, cuts, or open sores after proper cleansing. Seek medical attention if skin becomes red, swollen, or if drainage occurs.
Hydrocortisone Cream, 1%
Uses: For the temporary relief of itching associated with minor skin irritations, insect bites, stings, and rashes.
Directions: Apply cream to affected area 1-2 times a day. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Use only as directed on package.
Ear Plugs
Directions: Open package and insert plugs into ear canal. Do not push plugs too far into ear canal.
Ibuprofen (like Advil)
Directions: Take 2 tablets every 4-6 hours with food. Do not exceed 6 tablets in 24 hours. Do not take if allergic to aspirin.
Loradamed (like Claritin)
Uses: For sneezing, watery eyes, increased nasal drainage, or itchy nose and throat.
Directions: Take 1 tablet daily. Non-drowsy.
Medi-phenyl
Please note: Do not use the following cold medications if taking a MAOI - used to treat depression and other mental health conditions.
Uses: For nasal congestion due to common cold or allergies.
Directions: Take 2 tablets every 4 hours. Do not exceed 12 tablets in 24 hours. Do not take with CCP or Mygrex or other decongestants and combination medicines.
Menthol Cough Drops (Sugar Free)
Directions: Use as needed for throat irritation and cough.
Mouth Rinse
Directions: Use for oral care to refresh mouth after eating or in combination with brushing teeth.
Multi-Vitamins
Directions: Take one tablet daily as a nutritional supplement.
Mygrex
Please note: Do not use the following cold medications if taking a MAOI - used to treat depression and other mental health conditions.
Uses: For sinus congestion and headache.
Directions: Take 2 tablets every 4-6 hours. Do not exceed 8 tablets in 24 hours. Contains APAP (Tylenol). Do not take with APAP (Tylenol), Medi-phenyl, or other products with phenylephrine.
Orasol Gel
Uses: For minor oral pain and sore mouth.
Directions: Apply a small amount to the cavity and surrounding gum tissue. Do not exceed 4 uses in a day, or use longer than 7 days. Do not take if allergic to local anesthetics such as procaine, butacaine, or benzocaine.
P.A.W.S.
Uses: To clean off dirt and bacteria if soap and water is unavailable.
Directions: Wipe hands and wrists. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Flammable - keep away from open flames.
Refresh Eye Drops
Uses: For red, itchy, dry eyes from allergies or eye strain. May use with contact lenses.
Directions: Do not use if you have drainage from your eye, eye pain, or if an injury has occurred. Seek medical attention if you have any of these symptoms.
Skin Moisturizer (like Vaseline)
Uses: Petroleum based moisturizer for protection of dry, chapped, cracked, or wind burned skin or lips.
Directions: Apply to affected area as needed.
Sting Relief Pads
Uses: For temporary relief of itching from insect bites or stings.
Directions: Apply to affected area after cleansing no more than 3 times daily. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use over large areas of the body or on raw or blistered skin. Discontinue use if condition worsens or is not better in 7 days, and seek medical attention.
Sunscreen
Uses: For prevention of sunburn with SPF 30.
Directions: Apply to all exposed areas of skin prior to sun exposure. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Discontinue if rash appears.
Sqwincher
Uses: For rehydration needs after exercising, excessive perspiration, or for illness-related water loss, such as diarrhea. Seek medical attention for excessive diarrhea.
Directions: Tear off top at dotted line and fill pouch with water.
Tecnu
Uses: Skin cleaner for exposure to poison leaves on skin.
Directions: Use within the first few hours of contact. Knead the packet well to mix the solution. Open packet and rub solution vigorously over the affected area. Rinse skin with cool running water and pat dry.
Thermometers
Directions: Insert dotted end as far back under tongue as possible. Press tongue down on thermometer while keeping mouth closed. Wait one minute. Remove thermometer and read immediately. The last dot to turn black indicates the correct temperature.
Toothbrushes
Directions: Toothpaste is on brush. Use to brush and clean teeth, especially after meals. Wet brush and use immediately.
Vitamin C
Directions: Take one tablet daily for improved immune system health. Do not take megadoses, which may cause kidney stones. Drink more water when taking vitamin C.
